Looking for an affordable alternative to the legendary Bear Grizzly recurve bow? I recently put two popular 60-inch traditional recurves from Amazon to the test: the DEERACE Ranger and the SAS Gravity. This comparison was actually a viewer request – one of my subscribers asked me to review the DEERACE Ranger as a potential Bear Grizzly clone, so I decided to make it even better by including the SAS Gravity in a head-to-head shootout. While both bows are slightly longer than the 58-inch Bear Grizzly, they’re the closest designs you’ll find on Amazon in every other way. The DEERACE Ranger impressed me with its incredibly smooth draw cycle, narrow comfortable grip, and surprising arrow speed – even though I received a 30lb bow twice when ordering 40lbs due to conflicting box labels. At just $129 for a complete kit including six arrows and accessories, it offers exceptional value for traditional archers.
The SAS Gravity recurve brought its own strengths to the table, featuring a gorgeous riser with an eye-catching gold medallion and the quietest shot I’ve experienced from any recurve in this price range. However, my testing revealed significant issues that are hard to overlook. The bow I ordered at 40lbs actually pulled 47-48 pounds, showed more stacking than other 50lb recurves I’ve tested, and delivered disappointing arrow speeds with my 500 spine arrows set up at 485 grains total weight. At $199 for the complete kit, that’s $70 more than the DEERACE Ranger. While hunters prioritizing stealth might appreciate the whisper-quiet performance, the draw weight inconsistency and overall performance issues make it hard to recommend over the DEERACE Ranger for most traditional archers seeking a budget-friendly Bear Grizzly alternative.
